The third Athenaeum was giving by writer Joshua Shenk. The majority of the Athenaeum consisted of Mr. Shenk reading a passage of the book he was writing. The book, as Mr. Shenk discussed, focuses on the life of Bill Wilson, the creator of Alcoholics Anonymous. Mr, Shenk said that he found Bill Wilson’s life interesting because Bill Wilson was placed on a pedestal by the people he helped through Alcoholics Anonymous, but he struggled with his own problems such as addiction to LDS and depression. Personally, I did not find Mr. Shenk’s book interesting. Foremost, there was not a lot of backstory given before Mr. Shenk’s reading, therefore leaving me confused as to what the reading was about.
