According to the textbook Baumeister and Bushman (2011) and Elliot Aronson’s book “The Social Animal” (2004), social cognitive is defined as the method that how human understand each other. This process consists of four components: attribution, biases (systematic errors), heuristics (mental shortcut), and attitudes. According to Baumeister and Bushman (2011) definition of attribution as how we connect the cause of human behaviors. Attribution could be used to determine personal responsibility if their action is intentionally and they are aware of its consequences. The assessments are by using Jones and Davis’ theory of correspondent inference. Based on the theory, if the disposition is no, it could be situational. We must determine if the majority of the students feel the same about the assignment. We conclude that if the student’s reasoning and the classmate are the same, then the reasoning could be true. Otherwise, their reasoning is personal, and the student is responsible for his bad …show more content…
The process that we go through to connect the event with an individual behavior is called attribution. We unconsciously use attribution to judge whether or not the people are rational. This causes the individual to act in a distinct way. During our discussion, we discovered that majority of the students blame their professor for their bad grades. Base on the models of Kelley, Jones and Davis, and Weiner; the student's response will weigh heavily on how the person critiques himself first. Once they rate themselves, they will then proceed on to who is at fault. With that being said, the student responses may not necessarily be correct due to self-bias. This can show otherwise through Kelley’s theory of consistency and distinctiveness. With that being said, we all do this subconsciously throughout our lives. We explain why we are angry and why we do what we do. This all comes down to how we view and rate one's self-consciously and subconsciously. So, the next time that social cognition (attribution) is at play, reflects without bias. Then, react and respond without a bias

Our group, upon reading "The Little Engine that Couldn 't" and collaboration with each other, have decided to explore the student 's lack of performance through Attribution Theory. This theory helps explain why, though given examples and a directive, the students in the room still seem unmotivated to do their work. The students beliefs that they aren 't capable either because of cultural aspects, locus of control, control of their environment, lack of stability in their abilities, or their lack of self-efficacy are causing them not to perform as well as Mr. Esky believes they can. While all four of these aspects play a huge role in the Attribution Theory, I will focus on how the lack of stability in their abilities or their lack of self-efficacy…

Students blame the teachers for inappropriate behavior because they feel that certain faculty allowed students opportunities to be dishonest and thus were responsible for the students’ actions. Weak institutional policies and unobservant or unconcerned faculty provide a student with what they believe is an opportunity to cheat, a way to level the playing field. This can be a particular problem on large campuses and in courses with large enrollments, environments where it is harder to establish a stern culture. Once a student is given an opportunity to cheat, because of the desire to pass examinations, will cheat. As an occasion to cheat presents itself, the external factors of desire to get the grade prompts an individual to take advantage of the given chance.…

Cognition, as defined in our notes, is the “mental processes related to acquisition, storage, and retrieval” (Frank P. Gengaro, Ph.D., MSW, M.A., LCSW, SI, TM, TM, TL, TMC, TTP). This basically means that cognition has a huge part in acquiring information and storing the information in an efficient way so that we can access it whenever we need to. The main way that we study human cognition is through the humanistic perspective. The humanistic perspective suggests that we are social creatures who interact with other social creatures for the sole purpose of survival. We use cognition in an adaptive, as well as, maladaptive way to survive.…

Internal attributions are controlled by personal attitude and external attributions are related with outside environment and situation (Robbins & Judge, 2013, p154). Moreover, the individual behavior depends on three factors which are distinctiveness, consensus, and consistency (Robbins & Judge, 2013, p155). Miranda’s behavior is distinctive because Miranda’s reaction is different in the different situations over time. At first, Miranda’s reactions are positive, she talked to Hank actively and want solve her situation (Cohen et al., 1992). Though this is true, to me accountability means: letting your actions rise above your excuses, overcome your fear and accept responsibility for the consequences you are accountable for. Accountability is liberating and requires a willingness to answer questions from those people affected by your actions. Accountability means to have the ability to follow through with your commitments you make for yourself or for others. It means honoring, exceeding, and improving standards.…

In connection with the attribution theory, teachers play a key role in their reactions to students’ successes or failures. These reactions directly influence the attributions students’ make. Teachers need to help students make adaptive attributions to unstable causes when a failure occurs. For example, it is adaptive to contribute failure to inappropriate strategy use (Linnenbrink & Pintrich, 2002).…
