Saul told his son Jonathan and all of his attendants to kill David. However, Jonathan really liked David and warned him. Jonathan told David to be on guard the next day to go hiding and stay there and he’ll talk to Saul about him and find out what he thinks. Jonathan spoke well of David and said that David has not done anything wrong to him and what he did do was benefit him. Jonathan included that David was innocent and he even risked his life to fight Goliath. Also, that the Lord won a great victory in all of Israel. Saul made a promise to Jonathan and said “As surely as the Lord lives, David won’t be put to death.” Jonathan told David everything that has been said. Jonathan did this because he loved David as much as he loved himself. While Jonathan was clarifying of what was to happen he said: “My father would notice that David’s seat is gone and on the third day hide in the spot you were hiding in when the trouble began and wait by the rock Ezel. I will shoot three arrow at the side of the rock on the third day. I will send a boy and tell him to find the arrows and bring them. Then, David can come out of hiding. However, if I tell the boy the arrows are beyond you then you must go because the Lord has sent you away.” When the New Moon festival came, the king sat down to eat. The next day, Saul asked “Why hasn’t David come to the festival yesterday or today?” Jonathan answered what David told him to say and Saul became very angry with Jonathan and cursed at him. He must die!” Saul threw his spear at Jonathan, trying to kill him which meant he really wanted to kill David. Jonathan was upset of what Saul wanted to do to David.
