I think by the movie director adding in Jonas sharing more about his teachings with the Giver it emphasized he wanted to show people the happy things that they were missing even if they were small to give them joy. The movie gave more examples of Jonas trying to show people the small things that gave joy, so it gave more strength to the goal of what he was trying to…

One is that in the book Jonas receives the memories when The Giver puts his hands on his back but in the movie he puts his hand on his birthmark (Lowry 20-21). Another difference is that in the book Jonas sees the apple change color but in the movie doesn't show that (Lowry 24). Also, another difference is that the book Fiona, Jonas, and Asher are volunteering at the House of the Old but in the movie it is at the Nurturing Center (Lowry 29-30).…

Jonas’s society in The Giver seems to handle the Circle of Life- mating, families, and death- much better than our own. In Jonas’s community, finding a suitable mate is simple; someone looking for a mate applies for one and the Committee of Elders assigns the applicant a husband or wife based on how compatible the two of them are,personality-wise. This avoids all risks of getting hurt by others, and the Elders take this choosing very seriously. Jonas thinks “Even the Matching of Spouses was given such weighty consideration... All of the factors-disposition, energy level, intelligence, and interests-had to correspond and interact perfectly” (48).…
