Seventh grade, my second year now at what I thought to be the worst school in the world. On back to school night I met a man who would change my perspective on life completely, that man being Brandon Lilly. Henry Adams once said “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” At a mere five-foot four he appeared to be a kid minus the burly lumberjack beard that he possessed. I remember being skeptical at first because I had never had a male teacher before. He had two lessons planned in case one could not be completed. For instance he arranged both an indoor and an outdoor scavenger hunt because it was snowing, granted he allowed us to attempt the scavenger hunt in the snow. Lilly’s Battle Royale was the talk of the lunchroom for the next two weeks when we got back to school. My sixth grade year did not do my thoughts for the future any justice, I had a lot of trouble adjusting to the workload from elementary school. I had always liked science but Mr. Lilly made me love it regardless of the work he put in front of us. He had the ability to turn the most boring topics into an action packed class period. The best part about his class was that we were his first period, his guinea pigs as he called us. We always had the luxury of trying his labs and testing his scavenger

There were so many students, I honestly did not know who to be friends with and who not to be friends with. As the first week of school passed I quickly found out who you do not want to be friends with unless you wanted to get in trouble. A few weeks into the first nine weeks of school, there was a girl ( who happens to be my best friend now) and she was reading Harry Potter which I happened to be reading as well. We soon became friends, then best friends because we have so much in common. August and Jack along with Summer are like my best friend and I.…

After the event, held in the auditorium of a local community college, the emcee announced Collins would be signing autographs in the college library. He was censured in Congress for violating the Gag rule, under which he defended slaves gaining their freedom. When someone is censured, it is a formal expression of severe disapproval, and is later voted in the Congress if necessary for expulsion. He introduced a series of resolutions to the House during an uneasy time in Congress when things many were changing.…

Life is a not just one big picture. No, it is not one specific goal or interest. Throughout my childhood, every morning before my father left from work, he would kiss me on the head and say “work hard and play hard today Anna.” He taught me to try my best in everything that I do, academics, sports, friendships, etc., even if failure was the result. I came to George Fox with a mindset of becoming a Physician’s Assistant one day, so I chose the Biology route, with a Spanish minor.…
