In this paper, I will evaluate the role of a Reading Specialist, and how they create a curriculum that anticipates a student’s reading level. Reading Comprehension: According to assessment data, teacher observations and reporting, Chris strengths in reading is his fluency, decoding, capabilities of identifying main event from a “short” narrative text, can answers most “wh” questions about narrative text at grade-level. iReady Program Evaluation Plan Step 1: Purpose of the Evaluation The purpose of this evaluation is to examine the effects of the implementation of the iReady program in regard to student achievement in English language arts (ELA). The study will be conducted across 4th grade classrooms with a total of approximately 60 students. He could read 50 words per minute, while only correcting himself once and repeating two different words once. Andres instructional reading level is first grade; he does not read for fluency or meaning whatsoever. Even though he is a slow reader he relied on his syllables to sound out words as best as possible when coming across words he was not familiar with. Andres has several strengths such as using tracking to read most of the words, he only skipped two words while reading the entire passage. Academic Review Reading Fluency Daniel’s reading fluency at roughly a fourth grade level. He is currently being progress monitored at a fourth grade level as his AIMSweb fall benchmark score placed him below the 10th percentile. After reading seven fourth grade passages this year, Daniel has averaged 83 WRC (words read correctly) with 8 errors. This score would put him in the 25th percentile compared to fourth grade students attending Robinson School. He has read as many as 106 WRC and as few as 52 WRC.…
In this study, students at jeopardy for reading difficulties were assigned to control groups. Students received reading intervention daily for 50 minutes in small groups from October to April. Students in the comparison condition received the school's existing instructional program for struggling readers. In the article Supporting Secondary Readers, the author talks about the different strategies that the teachers use to support readers that are having trouble. According to the author, 8.7 million fourth through twelfth graders struggle to read their textbooks everyday while in school (Ness, 80). If the students cannot read their textbook, then it makes it real difficult for them to try and learn the material they are required to learn. A reason to support this is that the students will not be able to comprehend what they have read, because they are not able to read the information accurately. In recent discussions of kids and teenagers reading, a controversial topic whether the way the school board is trying fix it is good. On one hand, some argue that retaining the student will be beneficial for them so he or she can catch up on reading at their grade level. On the other hand, however, others argue that the reason why the student has a poor test score is because they were taught poorly in school and did not read outside of school.
