Everyone is apart of at least one discourse community throughout their life. I am apart of many discourse communities. The biggest discourse community I am in is majoring in teaching. Intervention specialist is a great discourse community to be involved in. The discourse communities I am in now all have a common goal in mind. Examining writing through the lens of my discourse communities completely changes the way I see things. My discourse community as a special education teacher has shaped the way I write and changed my whole look on things.

This definition does a great job explaining what these types of communities do. As a community, we will share the same values about the subject, we will have a purpose and a certain way to communicate one another how to complete that purpose successfully.
How does my discourse community communicate? Well, my community is very positive when it comes to communication. It is a very uplifting environment to be a part of. Discourse communities come up and are made because a group needs a place where they can have shared need for rules regarding their use of language in their communities, this is why most communities come up in the workplace. In my case, mine occurred in my school. A teacher at my school felt that more people needed to become more familiar with the students with disabilities. We wanted to create a better way of communicating with others that were outside of our discourse community in hopes that people would become more comfortable talking and connecting with people with certain disabilities. My discourse community will already struggle due to stereotypes already made up about the people in special education classrooms. But, with great communication skills within and outside of the group will help it grow to become great. My discourse community is growing and becoming more popular, more people are wanting to become teachers. When most people hear the words special education, they think of autism or down syndrome. But those are only 2 of the many things that make up special education. Our discourse community is huge to the point some people do not even know that certain things fall under special education. In my last article called “What is Special Education?” The author talks about the many things that can cause the term special education to be used. When I read this article, I realize how big or community is and will continue to grow. Our community is designed to help the people with disabilities in need and our discourse community comes together to see how we can help positively impact the lives of others. I pulled out a section in this writing where it talks about the program for special education as a whole, “Special Education programs are designed for those students who are mentally, physically, socially and/or emotionally delayed. This aspect of “delay,” broadly categorized as a developmental delay, signify an aspect of the child's overall development (physical, cognitive, scholastic skills) which place
