A few of my primary strengths as a leader is the ability to understand inspire and motivate people to new heights. Self-awareness – I practice this everyday! I learn from my failures and always look for ways to improve.
2. Motivation – I am good at keeping the momentum going and generating enthusiasm. I love to push people to reach their maximum potential.
3. Empathy – I have the ability to understand others feelings and way of thinking. By having empathy I am able to find other ways of motivating them. I am not afraid to have tough conversations with people.
4. Social Skill – I am great at building rapport and relationships with others. When mixed with empathy I understand how to communicate with others and know how to motivate them.
People believe in me because they have in many cases seen my growth and my confidence is contagious. Mark Hoffman, president of CNBC described the difference between arrogance and self-confidence in the work place; he described confidence as being essential. I set a high standard which makes people want to reach higher and do better. Last month, I created a fun activity to drive production in my office – I set our goals slightly higher than what was required because I believed that we could to better in several key performance areas. Every day I pushed and inspired my teammates to get one more piece of activity than they did before. When I completed my DiSC assessment it showcased not only my strengths but most importantly my weaknesses. It showcased that I sometimes set unrealistic goals, push people at a pace that doesn’t allow them time to develop necessary skills, and am impulsive. Although I disagree with some of them, I am also aware that they are things that I need to improve in. Also, I sometimes lack self-regulation which is all tied together with the results from my DiSC assessment.
After much self-reflection, reading this weeks required readings, week 3 lectures, and a serious conversation with my manager and mentors, we identified areas of weakness and ways to improve in them. I got this idea after reading HBR signs that you lack emotional intelligence by Muriel Wilkins she suggested that you do four strategies to help you improve which are 1. Get feedback, 2. Beware of the gap between intent and impact, 3. Press the pause button, and 4. Wear both shoes. So here are some of my
