John woke up to the abrupt sound of his alarm, he suddenly remembers it was his it was the start of his Senior school year. He jumped out of bed and went to his draws to put on his finest clothes; than he ran around his room to collect the scattered school supplies and then shoved it into his book bag. With the lingering smell of sausage, bacon, scramble eggs, and toast in the air, he took his bookbag in hand and merrily skipped down the stairs into the dining room to meet his mom, and his “little” sister for breakfast. His father never had time in the morning, Matthew - John’s dad” had to rush out the door due to his job of being a lawyer, along his side was John’s older year old brother, Charly hoped too of becoming a lawyer. Their mom called back to John in a content tone “Hi John, you are late for breakfast; hurry and get a plate.” “Where's dad and Charley” John said in a saddening tone. “At work” his mother responded. John huffed, then grabbed his plate and sat down with Shelly. He scarfed down his breakfast and continued to get around. On the way out of the door Julian - John’s mom - gave both John and Shelly a kiss on the cheek and sent them on their way. The walk to the bus stop was freezing cold, John thought “How can it be so cold in summer time at 7:30 a.m. in the morning?” John swatted that thought away and buried further into his coat as they hurried to the bus stop. There John meets his three best friends in the world, Samantha, Donnie, and Mike. Samantha is a blond hair and blue eyed girl, she has a angular face, but it's soft, she has the average body type. Both Donnie and Mike are short haired, Mike was blue eyed, but Donnie had albino eyes (pink or red) and he also wore glasses or mostly contacts. Both Donnie and Mike are a teensy muscular, both of them played sports with John. Every time they meet or talked, John always remembered how long their friendship is. John pushed the thought away and greeted them him a joyfully, “Hi guys”. “Are you pumped for our first day of high school” Samantha said to everyone. All of them blew through the homework and projects besides Mike, he was a social butterfly and didn’t focus on grades, he always had a C+ or lower. They would all meet in their school library and work or read, they always had chats like, “What did we have homework in?”, or “What are you doing for your projects.” John Silviean didn’t care on what to choose on projects of assignments he only cared on the grade, especially career based things. He would always moan and argue on how he didn’t care. “I do not care about this project,” John protested, “This won't matter in the future as long as you get good grades. “John”, Samantha said concernedly, “All the things we do in school matters, even Mike and Donnie agree; your career is based on what your preferences, like me, I will make a career out of photography, that's why I take it,” she said with a smirk. John thought over it than thought, “It’s a load of rubbish, anyone can pick a job and live a standard life.” They got many of career testing opportunities, One of these was Penta career center - as they talked about all the career selections, John leaned over to Evan; the person who sits at his desk and whispered “If I stay one more moment in this class listening to the Penta person, imma die of boredom.” He abruptly raised his hand and said he had to go to the bathroom badly. Another a field trip to a university or of course Penta, these days John thought

I’ve been listening to a lot of Jon & Deek in the morning, and in the mid-afternoon, and early evening. Those two (or one?) have me flipping through channels, seeing if I can remember what station NPR or The Keg is on. All I could remember about a station was “the Eagle is classic rock,” and I spent many minutes at red lights flipping through the country music stations trying to be reunited with my old customary station, only to find myself listening to Will Ferrell screech “SAANNTTAA!” on 94.9’s Christmas ad. Nothing was more brutal, and yet familiar than this. There’s no aux cord in my 2002 Honda, and it spits out cd’s when I put them in, and I can’t make myself realize that I’m not motivated enough to actually listen to NPR on a morning drive, so I resist looking up the tune-in number.…

Several days before the start of our last year in high school, my neighbor and I divided our time between hunting and surfing to end our summer. I really just wanted to go to the beach, but Johnny refused to give up the precious narrow window of time between the start of deer season and the start of the school year. One day, he came into our house uninvited. He charged into my room with a rifle in his hands to wake me up at five in the morning to sit in the deer stand with him that we had set up in the deep, swampy woods behind our houses. This was a normal occurrence of his, seeing as nobody locked their doors in this little hicktown, especially not my mother.…

I placed my mug down on the coffee table I had purchased at a local flea market some months ago. It was already marked with stains and scratches from past spills and the thin coating of gloss that it once glowed with had almost faded completely. Unwashed dishes and stacks of old newspapers and magazines lived on the surface of the wooden stand. I reached for the most recent New York Times and flipped through the pages, uninterested. On the back of the last page hung a wrinkled check with smudged ink and unidentifiable streaks.…
