While exploring potential career paths, I read the book “101 Things I Learned in Engineering School,” by John Kuprenas. In the author’s note, he stated engineers view the world as “fascinating, creative, challenging, collaborative, and unfailingly rewarding,” and suddenly I wanted to know more. As I continued reading, I was intrigued by the idea of using math and science, in combination with creativity, to produce something tangible that could potentially be used in someone's everyday life.
Engineering seems like something I want to pursue, but everything I know about it comes from what I have read or heard. I don’t have a strong idea if I want to focus on civil, environmental, chemical engineering, etc… as I hardly know the difference between

Fred Korematsu underwent many drastic lifestyle changes in order to simply live his life as a U.S. citizen, from assuming a fake name and national descent to receiving plastic surgery to alter his eye shape and make him less likely to be found by U.S. military. Despite these decisions, he was still found and arrested on a street corner in San Leandro, California and held in the county jail for five months. During this time, he was visited by the director of the American Civil Liberties Union, San Francisco branch, Ernest Besig, and asked if he would like to be the first ‘test case’ for fighting the government back over the unfair treatment of Japanese-Americans, to which he agreed. On May 30, 1942, his case finally went to court, where he was convicted ‘for violating the military orders issued under Executive Order 9066’ (Korematsu Institute, Fred Korematsu v. United States).…

Senior Brag Sheet Career Choice: I plan to double major in mechanical engineering and finance, but still face some uncertainty in this plan. My interests developed mainly from the push of my parents. Ever since I was a child, the overarching career I was pushed towards was engineer or doctor, so I pushed myself to learn topics that would better support these ideas. Classes such as Scitech gave me an understanding of what engineers do which provided me with a great deal of interest. Other clubs such as Science Olympiad and TEAMS have also given me experiences that have fostered this interest in engineering with competitions and processes of creating something.…

One concept that stood out to me in the Technology theme is in the article called Shell Shorts by Amber Bravo it talks about learning the evolution of material and design of chairs. According to Amber Brown, Eames and Saarine made a plywood chair and started experimenting with molding the chair differently with curves and dimensions with the plywood ( Bravo par.2). They would construct and reconstruct the chairs mold with different dimensions, for example, 2D and 3D to see what style is more successful. As they have experimented with the different styles, in the article Bravo states that Eames and Saarine were influenced to enter in a “competition in 1940 had three-dimensional curves. For this they won first prize, but it was only produced in very limited numbers and not anywhere near to their desired quality” ( Bravo par 3).…

In the beginning, he portrays mechanical engineering as the conversion of small parts to a finished product. Also, he explains that mechanical engineering encompasses the study of any moving part. Furthermore, Hone implements information from the American Society of Engineers that states engineering is composed of thirty-six divisions. The source is credible because it has an author and resides on a university website backed by information gathered at the college.…

Of these three, my first pick would be propulsion development engineer, followed by spacecraft structures engineer. Propulsion development is a branch of aerospace engineering that focuses on spacecraft and aircraft propulsion systems. I chose to investigate these three careers as I feel that I would enjoy working in them and would like to obtain more information on them so that I can make more informed decisions regarding them in the future.…
