This was just the beginning of John’s lifework. God continued to speak to John through his dreams throughout his life. John learned to listen to what God was telling him and let that guide him in his life. Though there was major pushback on the thought of him starting a ministry for disadvantaged young people from his closest friends and family, he continued to listen to God and went on with his calling. John developed fun tactics to encourage poor and troubled boys to live a moral life. He often shared his dreams with the boys to show them God has a unique way of talking to us sometimes and we need to listen so that we are able to hear. John also used a different disciplinary system for the boys. He believed these young people must be loved and know they are loved. He included music and games and kind lectures to help these boys and it really did help them. People often called him a miracle worker. When he died at the age of seventy-two, his work was continued as the Salesian Foundation. This foundation has continued to live until today helping young people everywhere find their voice. John is still recognized today for all his hard work as the patron saint of

Both narratives describe a time in history when man had to overcome vast cruelty including either an outside force such as traders or Mother Nature. The authors of the personal accounts, John Smith and Olaudah Equiano, expressed a tone of courage which fueled their motivation throughout the hardships faced during the time period. Captain John Smith revealed his strength and perseverance when going head to head with the oldest force in history, Mother Nature. One detail that expresses the theme includes "With this lodging and diet, our extreme toil in beaning and planting, palisades so strained and bruised us and our continual labor in the extremity of the heat had so weakened us."…
