With heavy bass focused beats and crescendo styled introductions, Bada$$ uses his beats to hype the crowd, offering a better experience for all in attendance. Although no specific instruments are used on stage, beats in hip hop songs offer many different elements such as snare drum, kick drum, bass guitar, synth pads, scratches, hits, and a multitude of other vocal effects. One thing a lot of rappers tend to have in common is their ability to sing in legato. This is an important feature to the fast pace of rap lyricism, and Joey had quite the knack for making his vocal transitions and verses flow smoothly and connect effortlessly. Being a Bada$$ fan for roughly three to four years now, I was ecstatic to find out he would be performing at First Avenue during the start of summer break. I am extremely that I purchased tickets, as the concert was nothing short of the spectacular experience I was expecting it to be. His stage performance was entertaining to say the least, and the use of stage lights, fog machine, and EXTREMELY loud sound system really increased the visual and audio display. Something that spiked my interest during the concert was the differences in the live version of his songs, compared to the cut, dubbed recording made in the studio. I enjoyed the live version much more, being that I was able to identify accent on certain songs, and get a much better sense of Joeys music from a personal standpoint. However, I did find a few negatives while listening to the concert. Some lyrics were hard to understand, mainly because the beat overpowered the singing at times. I would have liked to hear them more clearly, considering Joey Bada$$ is known for having very thoughtful, deep lyrics that sends listeners into a realm of visualization, thought, and reflection. However, it was never a mistake as to what song was rocking First Avenue.
