Hoarding is having a difficult time discarding or parting with possession, regardless of their actual significance of the item. Hoarding will diminish the quality of life of the person living within the environment. The lack of functional living space, unhealthy or dangerous conditions that hoarders. They often go without heat or other necessary comforts because they don’t want anyone in their home. The hoarder’s way of life could lead to separation or divorce, eviction, and even the loss of child custody (Neziroglu, July ). JoAnne is an example of a hoarder who is living in conditions who diminished the quality of her life and her grandson’s life. Child neglect is an important issue. Often overlook because you can’t see it. According to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Children's Bureau, “Neglect is the most common form of child maltreatment.” The video with Joanne gave an overview of hoarding and showed how it is child neglect. The Joanna’s Video helps impact the need to understand child neglect. Child neglect accounts for nearly half of all reports of maltreatment, and understanding about the effects of neglect are limited. The ages of children who is at risk of being neglect is younger than five years old and children who families is economically challenged (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Children's Bureau , 2013).
