Before even considering starting a political career, JFK pursued life as a navy soldier and sent his first application in 1941. He, however, was denied due to back problems. This did not defer him. JFK persevered, fixing his chronic back pain finally granted him access to serve. After two years on the frontlines, Kennedy’s actions awarded him with the Navy and Marine corps medal, the Purple Heart and a citation for his service.
