A priest was the person who was different from the rest of the community. The priest was a person of faith who elected to carry out the traditions of their religion in terms of worship and sacrifice. A priest acted as a middle man between you and your God. Priests can perform different rituals and traditions of that given faith. Their goal is to serve God and him alone. Priests in Jewish tradition were able to perform sacred rituals at the Temple in Jerusalem. However, since the temple was destroyed, the Jewish faith has taken on the role of the Rabbi who does not perform these rituals as a priest would. They are teachers of the Jewish faith and law. These Rabbi’s serve the community and maintain the Jewish law and traditions. They are of no more importance than the average member of the Jewish faith. The only thing separating them is their education within the Jewish law. I feel like due to all these changes that occur throughout the Jewish faith and tradition, as well as their inability to do many things since the destruction of the Holy Temple, much has changed in Jewish traditions. Today there are several different branches of Judaism, which include Orthodox, Conservative and Reform Jews. These views range from believing that one single God exists to the more contemporary belief that seems to take a more Atheistic approach. Many Jews today claim their Jewish faith and culture, but do not even believe a God
