My very own two year old who has never even had McDonalds pointed at the television in excitement when she saw one of their commercials containing the Minions from the movie Despicable Me 2. In the “Despicable Me 2 McDonald’s Happy Meal” commercial advertisers use the very popular Minions characters in order to portray how delicious McDonalds is that even the Minions enjoy their food. The ad continues to speak of how fun it is to order milk and apple slices, yet at the end of the commercial there is still an order of fries with the meal. Subconsciously these advertisers are telling our kids that even though they should eat healthy foods such as apple slices, fries are still available to order instead. The truth is that if kids really wanted apple slices then they could just stay home, but these companies need kids to ask their parents to take them to McDonalds so they can get fries and a Minion …show more content…
Trix cereal uses colorful images, a memorable rabbit, and an iconic slogan in order to convince children to eat their sugary cereal. The approach that the advertisers for this specific cereal use is actually very direct, because they do not hide the fact that the commercial is directed towards children. We all know the scene of the “silly rabbit” who is trying to eat Trix cereal, but in the end he cannot because “Trix are for kids” as the slogan states. The slogan itself emphasizes that the cereal was made especially for kids. This of course only interests the children more because if the rabbit wants the cereal it must be delicious. All it takes is one trip to the grocery store and suddenly children are asking for a cereal that they have never even tried before. Once they do the sugary content has the kids
