Jesus In The Gospel Of John

Improved Essays
In the Gospel of John, the author compiled a “Book of Signs,” which “scholars believe… [is] a previously compiled collection of Jesus’ miraculous works” (Harris, 2012: 242). One of these signs was the conversation with the Samaritan woman. This sign meant to convey the truth that Jesus was sent to the earth to share with the world – that he was the Messiah sent to save all those who chose Him, and that He is a new covenant with all people of the world, of all backgrounds.

N.T. Wright, in his book Simply Jesus, tells his view on who Jesus was, what he was trying to accomplish in his public career, and why it all matters. He describes that Jesus is much more complex than most people think. Many Christians believe that they know Jesus. Wright argues that Jesus can’t be understood easily. He uses the analogy of the perfect storm to show the complexity of Jesus which consisted of the Roman oppresive force, Jewish expectations, and the wind of God.…

Later in the story, Jesus’ disciples returned from their task Jesus had sent them on. In John 4:27 it states, “ Just then His disciples came, and they were surprised to find Him talking to a woman. However, no one said, ‘What are you asking for?’ or, ‘Why are you talking to her?’ ” This encounter and shocked minds of the woman and disciples showed the nonexistent, loving relationship between the Jews and Samaritan people.…

Pastor Expands the Discourse on “The Samaritan Woman” There is much more to Jesus’ interaction with the Samaritan Woman than just about “living water” and worship in spirit and truth. Every Christian should be familiar with the Biblical account of Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman by the well near the city of Sychar (John 4:4-26). It is in that event where He gave the discourse on the “Water of Life” and where He directly revealed himself as the Messiah to a non-Jew – and woman. For counselling pastor Glenn Vellekamp, the story reveals more than just about the “living water” and worship of God in spirit and truth.…

In the Gospel John 1:29-34, a certain thing stands out to me. This particular thing is unusual because of the uniqueness of John the Baptist. From this Gospel, I picked up the message of being your own person. John wasn't afraid to be different and he didn't care what others thought about him. Despite the judgement that he knew he would get, he followed through with his baptism.…

In this essay, I will be talking about what I believe to be true from what Jesus tells us in the Bible, about being the Son of God and how He was here to die on the cross for our sins, showing everyone who He was and who ever believe in Him is save, or healed if they were sick. In this paper, I will be talking about the trustworthiness and historicity of the Gospels. The historical reliability of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ miracles, and did Jesus claim to be God. Did his disciples believe he was God? The accuracy of the resurrection accounts in the Gospels, that is, did Jesus rise bodily from the dead?…

The Apostle John, having been exiled to the Isle of Patmos by Roman Emperor, Domitian, writes in the first chapter of the Book of Revelation that he was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day and was privileged to see a vision of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. It is in that vision that we read about Him Who is “like unto the Son of man”, and the majestic description of the Lord in all His glory as He walks among seven golden candlesticks. What does all of that glittery language mean? The candlesticks were local New Testament churches, the stars are the pastors of them, and the majestic Christ holding them in His hand is their Commander-in-Chief. John recorded in the tenth verse that he heard a “great voice” and in the very next verse he was directed to write to seven local churches in Asia.…

The Gospel of John is one of the four Gospels written to tell the story of Jesus’ life. Just as Matthew, Mark, and Luke have given their accounts of Jesus’ miracles so has John. Though these accounts may have their own way of telling what is important to them, the main fact is that these Gospels were recorded so that we may learn more of the word of God. “In order to understand John’s approach to the story of Jesus, the reader must recognize the centrality of the incarnation of the Gospel” (NIB 1905). The book of John begins, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).…

The end of the fourth gospel sets the scene with Peter turning and looking at the one whom Jesus loved. Peter ask Jesus why he has not asked this person to follow him, as he has Peter. Jesus replies with “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is it to you?” The ‘he’ that Jesus is referring to is the beloved disciple. The second to last set of verses in John, does not provide an answer the question of who this Beloved Disciple is, but only raises more.…

As we have seen, for Paul, God the Father is He who has raised Jesus from the dead. Paul views the Abrahamic narrative in this light as if the narrative were written with that statement being true at the time that Abraham walked the earth. The God of Abraham is the God who would raise Jesus from the dead. Implied in that statement is that Jesus had to die. Knowing that Jesus is God the Son, that means that, from time immemorial, the Son is He who would be sent by the Father to suffer and die.…
