Enzymes are protein molecules that significantly speed up the rate of virtually all of the chemical reactions that take place within the cell. In the following lab was to examine an enzyme that is found in pineapples. That enzyme is bromelain its breaks down protein into their protein into their amino acid by a process of hydrolysis. They are found in tropical areas like Hawaii, Thailand, and Brazil. For the first experiment the hypothesis was that the when gelatin was added to the water, fresh pineapple juice, and canned pineapple juice and submerged into the ice chest the solutions would turn into Jell-O. For the second experiment the hypothesis was gelatin was added to water, fresh cold pineapple juice, and fresh hot pineapple juice that all but the hot pineapple juice would turn into Jell-O. For the third experiment the hypothesis was that the pH would not have an effect on the bromelain activity rate. All six of them would turn into Jell-O Procedure One …show more content…
In the correct tubes were distributed 2ml of water, 2ml of fresh pineapple juice, and 2ml of the canned pineapple juice. Then 3ml of warm gelatin was added to each of the test tubes and they were placed into an ice chest for 10 minutes. Then they were taken out and observed.
Procedure Two
Started out with three test tubes labeled water, cold, hot. In the correct tubes were distributed with pipettes 2ml of water, 2ml of fresh pineapple juice for the one labeled cold, and 2ml of fresh pineapple juice for the one labeled hot. The one that was labeled hot had been placed in to a hot water on the burners for five minutes. After it was taken off 3ml of warm gelatin was added to each of the test tubes and then those test tubes were placed into the ice chest until the solution with water and gelatin began to solidify. Then they were taken out and observed.
