In Jefferson Davis’s inaugural address he declared that, “The tyranny of an unbridled majority the most odious and least responsible form of despotism, has denied is both the right and the remedy.” The federal government had done more than take away the rights of the southern people, they have also failed to supply us with a solution to fix our freedoms that have been taken. It is our right to own slaves and do as we please with them. However, the people of the north do not understand this. Everyday, they help our slaves escape the south and flee to the north to become free men. In the South Carolina Declaration of Secession, the northerners, “ have encouraged and assisted thousands of our slaves to leave their homes; and those who remain, have been incited by emissaries, books, and pictures, to servile insurrection.” Have they not thought about the possibility of terrible things that could happen? For if there were to be a revolt, it would be questionable to how much power these slaves could gain and what terrible things would become of the Union. Furthermore, why haven’t Northerners been punished for such acts that are illegal? They violate federal law that clearly states that all slaves must be returned to their owners. When Lincoln gave his oath to this country, he claimed that, “the laws of the Union be faithfully executed in all the States." There is no way that punishments have been equally executed since our slaves have disappeared from our plantations and are wondering freely in the north. Lincoln has not kept his word. His word has not been kept, therefore, this only goes to show the false hope that the North has tried to use on us to preserve the
