There are several core concepts in the theory of caring including transpersonal caring relationship, multiple ways of knowing and caring is inclusive (CITE). Nurses may show a transpersonal caring relationship by going beyond just physical care but considering the whole patient. This may be done by showing respect, dignity, honoring a patients’ wishes and connecting with the patient. Multiple ways of knowing may include art, ethics and science. Nurses are able to use art, ethics and science in caring for a patient from the knowledge acquired through an education allowing nurses to be well versed and experienced in dealing with the needs of the whole person. Inclusive caring does not discriminate against anyone, nurses need to take care of themselves in order to appropriately take care of others including patients and family
