Jealousy In The Community Research Paper

Decent Essays
Jealousy in the community has caused many conflicts. Business owners are resenting one another, because one is more productive than the other. There is that wealthy neighbor that can buy whatever he wants, having one Mercedes-Benz, a Porsche, and a Ferrari. However, the other neighbor is striving to keep things afloat. Tension occurs between the neighbors because of jealousy. The neighbors in my community, feud constantly about each other’s yard. There continues to be jealousy involved among them. When one neighbor buys a swimming pool, the other neighbor goes out and gets one too. If the ones do yard work, here goes the other neighbor doing yard work. “I kid you not.” There is jealousy involved because one does not want the other out-do them.

Gun control is one of many contemporary social problems that has created a lot of controversy and disagreement between a variety of groups in the United States. Underlying this issue as well as others is the Conflict Theory, one of the few traditions highlighted by Randall Collins in his book, Four Sociological Traditions. Disagreements can arise from individual beliefs that end up opposing one another, and once these conflicts reach their tipping point, one side become alienated, and change begins to be fought for. In the present day, there is so much disagreement that it makes the Conflict Theory one of the most relevant traditions for explaining and understanding society as it currently is due to the constant disagreements between people.…

Feuds have been going on for many generation between families or groups of people for no reason. The book Huckleberry Finn and in the two articles “Hatfields and McCoys” and “East Coast vs. West Coast Rappers”; they each describe a feud that happened in either the story or in the articles. Feuding In my mind is unacceptable because there is no reason that two family should fight each other over who is the best family. I feel like families do this because they’re too ignorant of each other and don't have any forgiveness for themselves towards others. In the book Huckleberry Finn there was a feud between the Sheperdsons and the Grangerfords.…

Rodrigo, I have to disagree with your view of cutting mediating neighborhood disputes. I see your point being people should try to resolve things on their own, however often times problems escalate quickly, especially when both parties know that the resource of calling a police officer is now unavailable. Good community relationships are essential for a neighborhood to flow smoothly, in hopes to tolerate less crime.…

A community like Oak Grove has all of the ingredients for a conflict to occur given the right set of conditions. A geographically isolated community with two identifiably disparate economic groups with differing interests is ripe for conflict and requires only a divisive issue to spark it ("Oak Grove Neighborhood Improvement," n.d.). The issue of commercial development in Oak Grove is a perfect issue to set the stages of conflict in motion. The Oak Grove Neighborhood Improvement Association Case illustrates the stage structure of conflict interaction using Rummel’s Five-Stage Model (Folger, Poole, & Stutman, 2013, p. 76). The interaction between Chad Jessup and Dwight Gaston during Oak Grove’s September NIA meeting exemplifies how the conflict within Oak Grove follows the Five-Stage Model.…

According to Ashman (2011), a neighborhood is defined as a “community of place within a larger community” where residents “share certain characteristics, values, mutual interests, or styles of living” (Ashman, 2011, p. 341). To me a neighborhood means so much more than that. A neighborhood is made of many people of different ethnicity. A neighborhood also has houses that people live in. In the neighborhood, there are many interactions between the people.…

If there weren’t a great number of people from all over the world move to the US, there wouldn’t be a multicultural and diversified America now. Those characters in the movie “crash” each other not only because of racism, but also because of the different social class they are in.…

The creation and use of social media has, for better or worse, become one of the defining characteristics of Generation-Z, or the Millennials. According to Pew Research, roughly 90% of young adults between the ages of 18-29 use social media. According to Link Humans, the average number of accounts run by an individual user is five (Link Humans). Those are significant numbers, and those numbers correlate to a larger shift in the way we communicate with each other and in the way we participate and create our culture and our entertainment. Users are now far more capable to participate in the creation and production of things than they used to be.…

Country singer, Gary Allen once said, “You can be the moon and still be jealous of the stars.” The moon represents people who seemingly have everything: the right clothes, money, connections, and everything, at least on the outside; while the stars represent the group that is shunned because of the jealously and hate that the moon feels for them. Gary Allen used the solar system to represent that even though someone could be the center but can still envy the rest. When people envy it leads to prejudice because they decide to put the person down who has more than them to put them on the same level, either through class or race. Shared humanity is acting for the good of people without expecting anything in return; when prejudice and jealousy come into play they make human act of spite and hate and not out of the good of people.…
