Jason and the Argonauts There is no doubt, we all love heroes, superheroes, detectives, crime fighters, the young Jedi in Star Wars. We adore all the stories about these extraordinary people doing everything they can to save humanity. Whether it is in movies, TV shows, novels or comic books, these superheroes have now become an obsession. Just take a look at the story of Jason and the Argonauts. The journey of the argonauts can well be one of the Oldest adventure of Greek mythology. “It is a classic hero’s quest, a sort of ancient mission impossible, in which a great hero is given great impossible tasks to achieve (Jason and the golden fleece BBC 1)”. This story was first told by Homer; this exciting tale has been stated for more then 3,000 years now! Still today, some of the most famous writers are inspired by this ancient tale of adventure. After doing some research about Jason and the Argonauts I found a beautiful painting that represented exactly was I thought in on of the passage of the book. This painting by Detroy is one of the seven most popular illustrations of the story Jason and argonauts(National Gallery 1). His drawings are still standing in Gobelins in Paris. This painting was completed in February 1743(National Gallery 1). This famous painting is called "Jason swore eternal love to Medea”; In this art the dragon was put to sleep by the potion Medea (National Gallery 1). So that Jason can take possession of the golden fleece(National Gallery 1). In the painting, Jason stands on the dragon, while Medea, a sorceress, stands to the left of the painting, In the background to the left are the Argonauts ships that are being prepared to bring them to Greece(National Gallery 1). After seeing this painting, it reminded me of the way Edith Hamilton had described that part of the
