Specifically, how they interact and how similar they are to humans, chimps have 98% of the same DNA that humans have. Jane observed chimpanzees to create and use tools in their own ways. Chimps also hunt for food and teach each other what to do in certain situations. Although Jane made many discoveries throughout her career, the biggest discovery, as I already said was finding out that chimps make and use tools just as humans do! Another assumption made by the public that Jane settled was that chimpanzees don’t only eat leaves and berries, they also eat bushpigs, colobus monkeys and hunt other small animals for meat. Many may know or have experienced how cruel females can be but it is no different in the animal world. Female chimps will gang up on other female’s offspring as a execution of revenge to show how powerful they are and the lengths they will go in order to gain acceptance from the other group members. On the other hand, chimps are documented as being loving and affectionate with one another, they provide kisses, hugs, tickles and even pats on the back as a reward. Jane and her team also witnessed a teenage chimp “adopt” a 3-year-old orphan chimp despite having no relation with the infant. Throughout her research she saw how the chimps create close and loving bonds between one another. Overall, the two greatest discoveries Jane made was that humans were not the only species to …show more content…
One criticism she does have against her is, in one of her experiments she created a “feeding station” with bananas in order to lure the chimps out into the open for easier observation. According to PBS.org she now regrets this decision, because it slightly modified the chimps’ behaviour, but overtime researchers have concluded that the chimps only got two percent of their overall food intake from the “feeding station”. Another criticism relating to Jane Goodall’s studies was that in a recent published book, Seeds of Hope, written by Jane Goodall herself. She was accused of plagiarizing over a dozen sentences from various websites including Wikipedia. Jane publicly apologized in many newspapers but she is very embarrassed that she made that mistake. I myself, do not have any criticisms about Jane Goodall. I find her very interesting because not anymore could do the extensive research she did and especially not anyone could get as close to the chimps as she did. She is truly a remarkable women. I enjoyed researching
