Ten minutes in the talk Oliver shows a graph depicting the leading causes of death for the total American population in 2005, the first three are diet-related disease such as: heart disease, all cancers and stroke, in sixth position is diabetes, whereas homicide is at the bottom. This statistic unveils an ugly truth; in fact, diet-related deaths are at the top of the chart with an enormous gap of more than 20% from the 4th in position. I believe this result is reason for concern of the future we are building for the next generations as well as the ridicule footprint we will be leaving in history, being remembered as the society who ate itself to death. In order to accomplish a goal, people need to be taught as well as emotionally touched, and that is why Oliver’s next example aims to a different part of the human’s body, its heart. The chef gives a real life example of what obesity does to people. He tells the stories of real people with extreme obesity issues, his intent of showing the ruthless effects of obesity on adults as well as on helpless children is successful, for the people in the example seem to have been completely drawn into the disease, but understand the consequences and are trying to find a solution to their problems. The example shows an obese mother that feeds her children only junk food, not surprisingly her kids are obese as well, at the end of the video clip the mother bursts into tears and promises the chef to drastically change her diets as well as her kids’. Oliver shows another life that he managed to help simply through information and human connection. Afterwards he insists on those emotional contents by conveying the stories of other people affected by obesity
