Careless and thoughtless speech is a trait that many people exhibit, including adherents of religion. Yet, James makes it clear that this cannot be the case, because those who speak without restriction or control are not truly religious. It is especially needful that people are mindful of their choice of words. While it might be Christians need to remember that they are not to place stumbling blocks before others nor are they to unnecessarily provoke them to wrath (cf. Matt. 5:22; Rom. 14:13; 1 Cor. 8:9; Eph. 4:29).
Widows and orphans have been in existence for quite some time, and today there are many institutions that care for orphans specifically. However, it still remains a Christian duty to assist in the care of these suffering people. Individuals in these situations need to know that there are people who are genuinely concerned for them.
