James Monroe Informative Speech

My president is James Monroe, who was the fifth president of the United States of America. Here are a few interesting facts about President Monroe. While serving under General Washington at the Battle of Trenton he was wounded and he carried a bullet in his shoulder the rest of his life. Monroe also bought the land that is now known as Florida from Spain. My favorite fact about Monroe was that he died on the birth of our nation on July 4th, 1831. He was a unique person because he was the first american president that dedicated his entire career to public service. James Monroe was born on April 28, 1758 at Monroe’s Creek, Westmoreland County, Virginia. Monroe’s parents are Spence and Elizabeth Jones Monroe. James has one sister and three brothers. He was part of the Democratic-Republican party. His Vice President was Daniel D. Tompkins. The White House has been burned down during the war of 1812. During this time Monroe traveled the nation helping Americans to know him better. Some important events during his presidency is his secretary of state John Quincy Adams organized a treaty with Spain. Monroe also ordered General Andrew Jackson to stop runaway slaves and Seminole Native Americans from attacking U.S. towns. President Monroe signed the Missouri Compromise which admitted Missouri as a free state as well as Maine. He oversaw a major Westward expansion of the U.S. He helped build transportation infrastructure and laid the foundation for America to become a world power. His most renowned legacy would be the Monroe Doctrine which stated anyone who attacked the U.S. neighbors as threats to the United States.
