Back around the 1930s a devastating time took place, the Great Depression. Braddock was a boxer who had a dream, the American Dream. The dream was the high hopes of making it into fame and out of the financial struggle. People went through many trials and tribulations back then to just make a cent. His way of making money was by boxing.
At first, Braddock was not successful with boxing. He had plans to make it big, but no one thought that was possible. Continuing to strive for the dream, he ended up breaking his right hand. His wife, Mae, was relieved that his dangerous career was over, but she then noticed that they had very little financial income. He had a few jobs that Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency helped to provide, but that was not enough pay. Braddock soon realized this and fortunately received the opportunity to get back in the ring, so he did.
While back, he started having a winning streak. Out of all the people he faced and beat, the biggest component was Baer. Baer was known for being the best fighter and killing people in the ring, so Mae did not support this fight. But little did she expect, Braddock ends up winning the match and wins money too. With the money he won, he was able to support his family, along with giving some back to the bank that previously gave him and his family loans to
