I believe that it is important to understand that White Privilege should be taught and implemented in our education. If I would have been educated on White Privilege in high school, I would not have taken my race for granted. I took my privilege for granted which protected me from everything. That if White;s learned about White Privilege they would have to learn and understand the privileges they have just because of their race. White people also don’t have to experience racism. Understand White Privilege would be very beneficial for people to understand and give an outside perspective. To become educated about understand racism can simply take courses that discuss racism issues. Reading books, researching, or watching public speakers about issues of racism is a good way to educate others. Another great way is to listen to others stories through their various experiences is a great way to understand racism. Allies are educated people who take action regarding racism issues. To be an ally one needs to first be educated, but a real ally is about putting words into action. First one has to understand how racism works and learn/listen to others experiences and how racism is deeply engrained in the society that we live in. Being an ally involves understanding your own privileges/oppressions and taking action by getting involved with community to help combat racism. Keep educating yourself and not being afraid to make mistakes. Working and always keep on trying to combat racism. For example, get involved with the community events, marches, protests, and other activities that will help combat racism. Many people say that they are an ally, but action is more important than words being said. By me becoming more educated and understanding racism help complete the first steps of being an ally. Now I need to take action by becoming involved with clubs and organizations on campus that help combat racism in our community. Those are the next steps that need to be taken.
