He had many values such as, citizenship, commitment, courage, determination, excellence, integrity, justice, persistence, and teamwork. He did not gain all the values by simply laying down and giving up on life. He overcame many barriers in his life an example could be the time he grew up in was a difficult time for being his race. His love for baseball and his ability to use this as a tool to impact and change many people's outlook on life. He played on an all white baseball team in a time where such things were not very popular in others opinions, but because of his persistence and not letting anything stand in his way he became not only one of the greatest baseball players of all time but a model for which we should all strive to be and achieve such things in one's life. My barriers pale in comparison to Jackie Robinson's but I can relate to the way he was looked down on by others, not for being another race, but because of my living conditions being poor. I can relate to being looked down at because you're not always able to afford some of the same opportunities as those who are more popular or better dressed, so in a way I understand what his barriers feel like and because of my dad getting custody of me I was able to overcome those barriers that had been in my life earlier on.I am now in honor society at school, involved in athletic and church, and want to be a good example
