The location for this work is based at the headquarters buildings at the camp 's base. However, this job does require regular travel, in a variety of settings, nationally during your initial year. With the opportunities and requirements for travel, nationally and internationally, increasing after this period has elapsed.
This job is highly supervised in the initial year as a Field Psychologist by the other New Zealand Defence Force psychologists in their fields of expertise, and in particular by the Senior Psychologist relevant to their branch of the New Zealand Defence Force. After this period assistance and direction is provided by the Senior Psychologist if and when required. Otherwise work is relatively autonomous, although it is generally at the request, or command, of formation units. Although specific projects each year, irrelevant of time served, do require teamwork under the supervision of a Senior Psychologist.

This is the main duty in the first year in this job, and is a one-off, though staying registered is an ongoing process. It involves six research projects, keeping a logbook, undergoing further specialised training, reflection hours, and an exam.
• Assessment and selection work.
This includes a broad range of selection work in and outside the New Zealand Defence Force. Tasks include running assessment centers, individual assessment, running psychometric tests, and training others to be assessors. It also involves designing and selecting the necessary assessment methods, as then validating these and existing assessment methods. This is a frequent and essential duty that is both ongoing and emerging. This duty is also necessary in order to perform the other key duties of this job.
• Training and development.
This is conducting training and instruction in a range of areas as appropriate to the personnel 's needs. It also involves designing, conducting and then validating training programs. This is ongoing, emerging, and an essential duty. It is also heavily dependent on the other duties.
• Organisational
