“I don’t know how it works, but it works.”
Inadvertently, lead singer Millie Perks perfectly encapsulates the essence of emerging Gold Coast indie-rock band IVEY. Nominally, Millie is referring to the intricacies of IVEY’s song writing process; offering a mere throwaway line, before providing deeper analysis. However, underlying this, she indicates something far more resonant.
She’s right, IVEY are a paradox, and yet incredibly simple. Ostensibly, their prosperity seems unlikely, having to contend with eclectic musical influences and tastes, an “almost non-existent” Gold Coast musical scene, and a singer too young to remain in 18+ venues after their shows. Yet, despite this, IVEY’s success is not only logical, but entirely expected, and completely

“Nah, I got forced into it [joining IVEY],” drummer Matt McGuffie laughs, in typically flippant fashion, before clarifying, “no, I was born into it. It’s a family.”
Of course, on a superficial level, this comes as no great surprise. Lachlan and Matt McGuffie really are family – brothers, born two years apart. Further, Lachlan and Matt have known bassist and fellow founding member Dante Martin since they were six-years-old and he moved in down the street. This core trio have played together in bands that predate IVEY for years. Yet, IVEY’s connection permeates beyond shared blood and longstanding friendships. It is deeper, and far more engrained.
Accordingly, this familial dynamic is inextricable, influencing every aspect of IVEY, from their live performances, to their musical output and broader goals. Moreover, stemming this, something else distinguishes IVEY: they remain humble, and firmly grounded, amid an industry so often riddled with ego and self-seriousness. While music is their priority, equally, they simply seek to have fun.
Perhaps this childlike enthusiasm is no surprise, considering Millie and Matt are still in high school, and Lachlan and Dante only recently

And then she came back an hour or so later and was like oh the photo wasn’t good can I get another one,” Millie recalls.
“And then Lachie came over, and Lachie was like, ‘do you want to get one with the rest of the band?’, and she was like, ‘no’.”
“She just wanted Millie, just Millie,” Dante reminisces.
Once again, the whole band erupts into rapturous laughter over the fond memory.
So, with credentials like this, an eagerness and openness to learn, and warm, relaxed demeanours, one would presume IVEY have no shortage of offers for the future. However, so far, this is not necessarily the case. Actually, according to Dante, the band are currently stuck in a bubble.
“The immediate future’s the hardest at the moment for us,” Lachlan elaborates.
“We’re in this bubble, where we’ve got a song, we’ve got a following, and we’ve got interest from lots of different people, but there’s nothing set in stone, not even the release date of our new single, which we’ve fully recorded. Even if we’re going to release it isn’t set in

Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been? By Joyce Carol Oates is the story of Connie, a 15 year old Texan girl, and one fateful summer day. Through characterization and symbolism the author shows that often teenagers rush into the fantasy of adulthood, never expecting how real it can get. By using the summer to represent her fall from innocence, music to show how Connie feels, and her habit of checking her reflection to prove she’s still young and insecure- despite how she may act, Oates provides an intense look at how there is always more to what is going on than initially appears.…

In 1977, following the mainstream success of their 1976 self-titled album, Fleetwood Mac began recording the legendary, Grammy winning Rumors album. Fleetwood Mac recorded the album at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles in the midst of relationship turmoil and the peak of the band’s drug abuse. Bassist John McVie and keyboardist Christine McVie divorced after six years of marriage, drummer Mick Fleetwood separated from his wife after she had an affair with his best friend, but the most drama and arguably best songs came from the end of guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks’s volatile relationship. Buckingham and Nicks’s breakup resulted in iconic and tragic songs like “Gold Dust Woman”, “Go Your Own Way”, and the group’s only number one single, “Dreams”. (Keens 1) Nicks wrote “Dreams” during the Rumors sessions during a brief escape from the hostile recording environment after hearing “Go Your Own Way”.…
