After attending the Ivan Coyote performance yesterday, I have learned a lot more about they ways how speaking and storytelling can convey certain messages. The performance was very powerful and emotional and the way he told the story to the audience made us feel as if we were involved in his life and felt very engaged. Also, before Coyote came on stage Janice Lee opened, and she sang her poems to the audience. problemsThese were about social justice issues and matters that needed to be changed in society. By singing her songs, the people for one become more engaged in the topics. I felt as if I was apart of the story and I could imagine what he was talking about in the letters. The part that made the performance so meaningful was when he started yelling and then said: “I’m sorry that I'm angry.” He has so much buildup of emotions that needed to be expressed, but people don’t and will never understand the anger, sadness that he feels deep down in his heart.It is a well-known fact that transgenders have a very hard time living in society this day and age with so many people who still continue to discriminate against them for no reason at all except for the fact that they are not “normal.” I have a friend who is beginning to transition into a man, and she has been having a tough time in getting her family to understand what she is going through and how my friend doesn't feel as if she fits in her body the way it is now.
