This precise painting was done between the period of 1513 – 1516. The medium used for this painting was oil on wood as well. If you look at the style used in the painting it is also a representational style of realism with a dominant subject matter of religion. Realism is portrayed in the painting due to the realistic visual appearance of the characters within the painting. The characters and their clothing in the painting tells you that the main subject matter of the painting is religion. As you look at the picture you notice that they all seem to be surrounding a man who seems to be either fainted or dead which in this case that man is portrayed to be Jesus and the women who is also fainted near him is Mary. This painting also portrays a short story found in the Bible. The form of aspects seen in this painting are color, lighting, and form. The color in this painting seem to be more solid and bright which help separate where the viewer’s attention should be. The lighting within the picture is also used to show what the main focus in the painting is. If you pay close attention to the painting the background seems to be be transitioning from light to dark to show that the background isn’t as important as the center of the painting, they use a technique known as modeling. This painting also seems to have usage foreshortening which is seen by the stone directly in the center which is angled to be facing the viewer to make the painting more
