Ismene is the main character in the play Antigone, one of many and since she is a major player she needs to have a lot of personalities in order for not to be stale or boring.

Antigone is just about as dedicated as any dedicated person is; she is so “headlong driven by the capricious gusts of her own will.” (232.) However, the Chorus makes the statement that although Antigone is doing something for justice, she should have known because the King has so much power, his words are law. They also say she leads herself into Hades’ Gate by will, that all that occurs now is a result of her actions. She is merely owning up to her flaw of trying to defy the King with her stubborn yet loyal heart.…

If Antigone was truly wanting to do what was right, she would have encouraged her sister that burying their brother is more than the right thing to do; rather, she gave Ismene an ultimatum that if she doesn’t help bury their brother she not only is betraying him, but is acting out against the gods. It is from this specific dialogue that I extrapolate that Antigone truly wanted to act alone so that the gods could view her in higher regard than her…

The classic tragedy of Antigone allows readers to follow the tragic destiny of Antigone, the ill-fated daughter of Oedipus. Throughout Antigone female gender roles are constantly spoken of in contradictory ways, posing a powerful debate about what it means to be a female. The Greek tragedy of Antigone presents a battle of opinions on traditional female gender roles; Creon supports the traditional female gender roles through his demeaning view and words he expresses towards women, which is contrasted by Antigone’s strong actions of bravery and her quest for freedom from the chains of grief as well as Ismene’s transition of ideology on how women should behave. The debate of female gender roles presented proves to be important due to the fact…

In this story, Antigone shows the most ‘unshakable will power’ out of all the characters. She is the character who provides the most will power because she is willing to do the right thing even if it means breaking a law. Antigone’s will power really emerges more than the other characters. Without even telling the king, she buries her brother to honor him and once the king finds out, she defends herself to the point where she could have been sentenced to death. Ismene says to Antigone, “Bury him!…
