The biopsychosocial perspective of a disorder should always be kept at the forefront of any clinicians mind and a formulation along with a diagnosis would make the clinician better able to this. As the clinician would be able to conceptualize the psychological and social perimeters of a disorder while at same time through diagnosing rule out any biological and medical causes for mental ills (ref book) remembering domino effect one perimeter can have on the other and effective treatment of one problem can help the other.

He hypothesizes that fashions in diagnosis often influence public and medical opinion blaming unethical practices of pharmacology companies such as misleading drug study data, marketing mythology and new drug treatments created especially for financial gain due to loss of patents for these fashions (ref audio) and therefore the creation of an over medicated population. This opinion shows another ideological argument within the mental health community of more drugs verses restraint medication use with financial gain and unethical practices purportedly playing a role in the treatment of depression.
