Government officials have been aware of the situation but failed to implement plans to manage the water supply. Society was not informed and educated about what strategies to implement. Helen Zille (2017) stated in 2015 that the provincial government applied to the national government to declare the Western Cape as a drought disaster are however they were declined. The provincial government should have still worked on its own towards preventing a water crisis. The matter should have been addressed as a matter of urgency and people and industries should be educated about refraining from polluting rivers as these are streams that flow securely and could allow us to create collection …show more content…
This will cause a significant increase in environmental pollution lead to the spread of many diseases in faecal waste such as protozoal, viral and bacterial (Mash, et al., 2018). There will be a higher risk of acquiring infectious diseases that trigger E Coli, vomiting, enteroviruses and diarrhoea (Mash, et al., 2018).
Secondly, when Day Zero reaches there will be a great loss of hygiene as there will be no water available in taps, wash sinks and showers. This will result in an increase of skin infections for instance infestations and impetigo (scabies and conjunctivitis) (Mash, et al., 2018). The spread of severe respiratory viruses that trigger pneumonia, coughs, bronchitis and influenza will be increased due to the lack of effective hand
