Irony: When Rainsford learns that Zaroff hunts humans, he is surprised, then Zaroff continues and says: "I have electricity. We try to be civilized here." In society, we see foxes as huntee's. Lots of people in our world hunt foxes down. On the other hand, in many examples, the cat is a hunter, hunting down mice. When Rainsford is saying this, he is essentially expressing his feeling that he is tired of being hunted down, and he wishes to switch his position with Zaroff, and hunt Zaroff down.
