Does the Company have a core competence? Invitrogen is the leader in consumables within the life sciences space companies. It is one of the largest catalog life sciences companies in the industry with a consistent customer base who come from academic research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical companies, and government laboratories. Invitrogen is known for its very aggressive acquisition strategy thus allowing the company consistent growth as well as offering customers more of an array of products and services. The core competence of Invitrogen is that there is a collective learning within the organization centered around trying to acquire new technologies in order to diversify products and technologies.

2. Does the Company have a sustainable competitive advantage? a. Valuable Capabilities – The potential to enter a variety of markets all under the biosciences umbrella make Invitrogen a competitor in their field.
