An outside force can be constructive, or it can be abusive. In this short story, all of the forces which Farrington encountered where abusive. Firstly, let’s look at how it is approached. This is the most important factor for deciding which kind of impact a force will have, and this was evidently avoided in the story. At the beginning, Farrington is ordered angrily from his boss, Mr. Alleyne, to come to his office at once. This is not a great start for Farrington, and already a negative impact has been made. It is without question that one can excel with encouragement and constructive criticism. But it also easy for one to fail, or be inhibited, by negative and abusive forces. It is up to us to how we receive forces, good or bad, but when it comes to how it is approached, there is nothing we can do. All that we can do, is treat others the way we would like to be treated.
