Government is not very helpful if there is not anything to protect it. The Chinese are the route source of one of the most deadly substances in the world. “The invention of gunpowder should in a way be attributed to alchemists of ancient China, who drew inspiration from the fire-ignition of pill-making process during which sulfur, niter and other substances were used” ( Ancient Chinese Inventions and Discoveries that Shaped the World”). Gunpowder was accidently invented when a Chinese Scientist named Wei Boyang tried to create an elixir of immortality. It was the first explosive substance discovered by humankind, and was one of the four major inventions of China. Many weapons used in warfare were powered by gunpowder. The gun was one of these weapons. The first gun recorded was the fire spear, a weapon that was a normal spear but had a tube at the end. The tube had gunpowder inside of it, and once the gunpowder was lit the explosion would propel a small cannon ball at enemies. This of course evolved into the flintlock pistols and rifles used during the revolution and civil wars, and to the modern firearms we have today. To this day guns still work the same as they did many hundreds of years ago they still use a gunpowder explosion to propel a projectile at the enemy, except they are much stronger than they used to be.
