It presents communism as a disease that spreads quickly as the pods infects their host until it transforms, when the transition is completed, they are identical to the person they were in every aspect except for the way they think. When I saw the movie I fell very related. Coming from a communist country I can tell you by experience, communism is a doctrine that once it gets into people’s brains it’s hard to establish a rational conversation with them because all the opinion they have is what they have been taught without further individual analysis. I saw this very well represented in the film as the pod-people seem emotionless, with no individuality, but with objectives. There is a part where Dr. Kibner tells Elizabeth “there’s no need for hate now. Or love”, hate and love are the two strongest feelings that human is entitled to have as individual. I translated this line as if he was saying “you are not free to feel that anymore”.

The pod people are not just a monstrous alien with tons of razor sharp teeth, instead they are regular people. They interact in a different manner from the normal people but they are the same shape, form, and look of who they have cloned. To others, the pod people are regular everyday human beings. However, they are uncanny because they are unnatural, bizarre, and abnormal. They are a monster disguising themselves as an everyday human
