Introduction

John B. Watson described psychology as “that division of Natural Science which takes human behavior—the doings and sayings, both learned and unlearned—as its subject matter”. Early behaviorists inferred that all behaviors are acquired through conditioning, and until today, behaviorists believe that humans’ actions are shaped by responses to environmental stimuli. However, in 1959, Noam Chomsky’s critical review of B. F. Skinner’s Verbal Behavior helped spark the “cognitive revolution”. Cognitive psychology concerns itself with the structure and functions of the human mind; this field of psychology focuses on the mental processes instead of behavior.

It is the efficient use of resources and how well workers combine those resources to produce goods and services. Employee productivity is very essential for everyone. Employers benefit from their employees’ productivity, as it raises their company’s income; employees get raises and promotions from satisfying employee productivity. Most importantly, employee productivity help economic growth, and as the economy grows, unemployment will decrease. There are two factors of job satisfaction: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic job satisfaction refers to the tasks that make up that job, while extrinsic job satisfaction refers to the conditions of work, for example, the pay, coworkers, and supervisors. These two factors of job satisfaction are interrelated and affect employees’ productivity positively or negatively.

Most organizations neglect the importance of these job satisfaction factors. In result, their employees’ productivity and subsequent income are not maximized. Job satisfaction is essential to maximize workplace productivity as it motivates employees to work and perform better.
