The interviewee is an Afghan senior student who has been in Australia for more than four years. Because of the war, her family migrated to this country to start a new life with better opportunities. Coming with the family is an advantage for the interviewee since she has somebody alongside to remind her of her origin and practice traditional rituals with her. The information she provided in this interview was about not only the Nowruz – Afghan New Year, but also her experience and perspective on the adaption of the Afghan culture to Australia.

Her friendliness and willingness to cooperate helped me be more comfortable. Having a good relationship with the interviewee was also an advantages since she were very generous in sharing personal information as well as having more natural body language and facial expressions, which made me acknowledge her answers better. Despite being close friends, we used formal language in this interview to set the focus on the information. Additionally, open-ended questions were utilised to make the interview more informative. The strategy I regard the most worthwhile was the transition from general questions about the ritual to question about the interviewee’s experience. It illustrated her perspective on this topic, which was a crucial key finding for this interview. However, it also led to the fact that the interviewee was very into the mood and provided many unrelated information. I overcame this problem with a respectful manner, let her talk freely, listened carefully to her and selected important parts later for transcript. Consequently, this interview made me a better listener and I am very satisfied with
