I found myself surprising interested in every area we covered. What I really found interesting and enjoyed was the final project where I could put everything I had learned thus far together. I loved having the ability to find a claim, identify questions, collect data, apply tools to interpret the data, and discuss/communicate the results. More specifically, I was able to determine the type of study I performed and the sample method I used. I generated statistical data such as measurements of central tendency (mean, median, etc) and measures of variation (standard deviation and range). We collect, analyze and interpret data to provide evidence-based nursing care to our patients. We use statistics to analyze trends in data, helping determine how we treat patients. We use it in research to develop nursing processes and procedures. Additionally, with technology there is increase access and availability of health data. An inability to understand and interpret data inhibits positive quality changes in healthcare, which is why understanding statistics is so important in nursing.
I found statistics to be a very challenging class but there is a lot I was able to take away from this class. Graphs, tables and statistics make data easier to understand and before this class I wasn't able to read and fully understand the information, which was being presented to me. However, after this class I'm capable of recognizing if studies are flawed or if there is bias in a study. I can read and understand data presented on charts and graphs. I have begun to recognize when graphs are representing a projection of data and not the actual data. I have become more familiar with determining ratios and probabilities and determining confidence intervals to help estimate population
