I always write down what I want to say during my speaking and try to sound naturally rather than sound memorizing. After receiving a feedback about my speech sounded memorized, I have worked to sound naturally. I tried not to write a whole script for my speech, but just to write the main points. I also have kept practicing so it can sound more naturally. However, that did not work out pretty well. As I look through the comment for the last presentation, it says some of my part sounded little memorized. Perhaps, the reason why I was not able to improve greatly is my original strategy was not a good fit for me. I need to continue work on this problem and come up with different strategy that is better fit for me. Perhaps, another strategy I thought of is to break down into very short sentences, so it can be sound more conversational and

I definitely have to change quite a few things to make my performance at least good if not the best in future. Among them, one thing I definitely need to change is “practice” giving a fair amount of time to develop a good memory until it reaches the point of perfectness while presenting or delivering. “Practice makes man perfect”-universal quote triggered into my attention now. I believed I had fairly good voice tone/volume, my non-verbal communication like gestures, body language, and eye contact wasn't bad. Similarly, I used a word fillers approach to cease fast flow of speech delivery to adjust with audiences’ conceiving capacity/ability and keep up the connection.…

My current skills as a student entering college lack readiness for a career in the field of marketing. However, I believe I posses good communication skills as I am fluent in both English and Spanish. Being fluent in multiple languages gives me the opportunity to speak and write appropriately to the audience I am trying to reach. I hope to improve and perfect these skills, as well as develop new ones through my time at St. Edward’s to better prepare me for the field of marketing. After interviewing Professor Mortada Mohamed with years of experience in the Marketing profession, I learned that it is important to study your audience and the organization 's capabilities in order to provide a straightforward or detail oriented statement regarding…

Throughout my academic career, I have taken and been successful in a large number of English classes. In high school, my writing followed an academic format, mostly writing towards a prompt. Although I was able to gain writing practice, I never received a large amount of feedback that I could use to help myself in the future. Similarly, when I started college I practiced different forms of academic writing, structured around a prompt and focused on the end goal of a good grade. However, in college I was able to start gaining useful feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of my writing that I could apply to later assignments.…

The first time I noticed this is at 0:09 in my speech. I think that if I were to stand up and be confident while delivering my speech it would make my performance a lot better. Last but not least I noticed my enthusiasm level almost seemed sarcastic in the very beginning of my speech. At 0:03 in my speech when I was stating my purpose statement, my tone in voice was strange and not exactly as enthusiastic as I could have been. I feel that if I practiced my speech a little more than I actually did, my delivery process would have been much…

I found that this chapter really made a connection with the kind of person I am and how I think. It is something that I already knew in a way but put into words. The self is extremely important and I find it to be a major part when being involved with interpersonal communication. There must be a certain balance in a conversation that uses this interpersonal rhetoric and having a high self esteem always improves the situation immensely. The chapter was very descriptive but I found the last segment named “Completely Disclosing Yourself” was the true closer and perfect key in comparing my life experiences with the chapters’ theories.…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

Communication can be expressed orally, in a written form, nonverbally, in a professional setting, or in a personal setting. My written communication skills improved drastically over the course of this semester by learning how to properly format and write business letters and emails. The cover letter and common assignment provided good practice and experience for developing my written communication skills. My oral communication skills were enhanced this semester by learning about listening. Before this semester I thought I had good listening skills, but I learned that listening requires effort and how there are many mental and physical barriers that interfere with ones ability to listen.…

When speaking in a public setting I use to have a problem speaking loud and clear, my hands would shake and I would become very overheated. After taking this class I have now learned how to cope with these problems. Nervousness is natural and understand how it can work in your benefit when speaking publicly, but the nervousness I would feel would be due to lack of preparation. I now understand how important it is to practice before speaking to an audience. When I presented my informative speech, I was given great feedback by my professor as well as my classmates; I even remember being told that my speech sounded very professional and that I “knew what I was talking about”.…

A.1 The self discovery model or the Johari window model is indeed an excellent tool which helps people better understand their relationship with themselves and others by putting their personalities in one of the four quadrants in the Johari windows model, namely – 1. Open area - People with personalities in this area are assumed to be very extrovert and they themselves as well as others know a lot about them and their strengths and weaknesses. 2. Blind area - In this area, the personalities are such that others know many things about the subject person even the things that they themselves don’t know about them.…

Retrospective Essay The goal of this course was to teach us the proper way to write, to help us communicate more efficiently in the business world, and to teach how to join the “never-ending conversation”. This class has already accomplished that and much more. Not only have we covered almost all of the course goals, excluding synthesis which will be covered soon; we have been challenged to think about more advanced topics, to stay current in the world, and to discern information for ourselves, not to instantly believe what others say. While in class learning the teacher has kept the course away from the traditional lecture structure and has engaged with the class leading conversations and not preaching to the class. Many of our conversations were about nonsense topics seemingly unrelated to anything, they still engaged us with one another and we still formed our own opinions our presented them.…

The anxiety slowly rises like a wave threatening to overtake the senses. Slow deep breath with a short prayer shot heavenwards keeps the wave at bay as I look through the course work. I feel the bible verse rise within my head: “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength” – Phil 4:13 (New International Version). I take a deep breath and remind myself that I am here to learn and that this course will expand my skills and fill the gaps that haunt my insecurities when the fear of failure washes over me.…
