Internal Validity In Research

When beginning to research, there is going to be three things that one wants to keep in mind so that they have some organization to their method. We have talked about the data collection process, which is how and can you actually gather the data, the instrument development, which is to put the data into context, and the third process which is going to be discussed in this chapter is the sampling process, which is a representative population on a broader scale. The third process known as the sampling process can also be call a research design. This step of the process involves comparison and seeing if there is a strong correlation between the data that is collected. To start off, there are four attributes to remember when dealing with research design. Internal validity, external validity, construct validity, and statistical conclusion validity are all important terms to think about when comparing and organizing your research. Internal validity can be defined by three different terms. There is going to need to be a co variation of cause and effect, which is when x is caused by y, temporality means that the cause must precede the effect in time, and last it will have no alternate explanation. It is hard to measure emotions or like the book said, how do we tell the difference between compassion or empathy? There are multiple scales that have to be tested to see if they can measure the unobservable, are consistent, and precise. When researching you have to be able to produce reliable and valid information. The data collected can be both reliable and valid or valid and not reliable or vice versa, reliable and not valid.
