Interest groups are individuals that come together to influence the government's programs and policies (p.353) and are a very important part in helping American Democracy. Interest groups allow individuals the opportunity to speak freely and make suggestions on issues important to them. Smaller groups allow for better organization and planning on a central concern so that action can be taken(463). An interest group often consists of people that are very skilled and knowledable on a partical topic or concern, allowing for them to provide concrete solutions to problems.
