Inner and Outer Planets Have you ever wondered the differences between the planets while looking up at the night sky? Although the planets have many differences, we can still tell them apart from what we’ve learned from them. They have some similarities, not much, but it’s enough for us to be able to compare them. We’ve learned their sizes, layers, what they’re made of, how they were founded and much more. Unlike the outer planets, the inner planets have rocky surfaces, which is called the crust of the planet and isn’t very thick. They have valleys, mountains, and large flat plains.
