Introduction A large amount of people in the U.S. have been diagnosed with diabetes. I don’t know much about diabetes and no one in my family has it but I want to know more. I feel as if many people have it and want to know how someone could get it. I also want to know how you would learn of having it so you can get the proper treatment you need.

The first one is A1C. A1C is not short for anything and its when you test your average blood glucose for a couple of months. This method is good because you don’t have to fast or drink anything. The results look something like this. 5.7% or less is normal. 5.7-6.4 is pre-diabetes and 6.5 or higher is when you know that you have diabetes. Another form of treatment is Fasting Plasma Glucose or FPG. “This test checks your fasting blood glucose levels.” (Facts about type two diabetes). Fasting is when you don’t eat or drink anything, except for water, for at least 8 hours before the test. Tests are usually done in the morning, before breakfast. For the results, less than 100 mg/dl is normal. 100 mg/dl to 125 mg/dl is pre-diabetes. Lastly 126 mg/dl or higher is when you have diabetes. The last form of testing is Oral Glucose Tolerance Test or OGTT. “OGTT is a two hour long test that your blood glucose levels before and 2 hours after you drink a special sweet drink.
