The first recorded case of cholera was in India in 1563. In modern times, however, the disease starts in 1817, when it spread from Ganges Delta, India, to the rest of the world. The pandemic spread to India, China, Japan and much of the Middle East. The disease spread to Britain in 1831 and then had followed outbreaks in 1841, 1854, and 1866. In the nineteenth century, cholera was believed to be caused by miasma (unpleasant smell) or bad air, but since it comes from dirty water and raw foods, they are not too far off.
Where is cholera found? Cholera is found in countries such as Haiti and Madagascar and other African countries. These countries are poor and can sometimes not afford to get everyone in their country clean and safe water or food. If someone in these countries contracts this disease, they often can’t fight it off because the only water they have is dirty or contaminated. They also do not have very good doctors and they probably do not know what they have or how to cure it. It’s very sad because a lot of the time children get it and die at such a young
